Passion Week (aka Holy Week)

Join us for worship gatherings during Passion Week, which is the culmination of the Lenten season, leading to the glorious celebration of Resurrection morning.

  • HOLY MONDAY – Marks Jesus’ return to Jerusalem, where he encounters a fig tree and dramatically clears the Temple. 6 to 8 pm: stations open in the Great Room for prayer and devotions. These are kid friendly and you can visit one or more stations at your own pace. 6:30/7:15 pm: identical worship/prayer gatherings in the Gathering Area.
  • HOLY TUESDAY – The conspiracies to trap Jesus escalate, and Jesus pronounces seven condemnations on the religious establishment. 6 to 8 pm: stations. 6:30/7:15 pm: worship and prayer gatherings.
  • HOLY WEDNESDAY – Remembering when Judas Iscariot conspires with the religious council to betray Jesus. 6 to 8 pm: stations. 6:30/7:15 pm: worship and prayer gatherings.
  • MAUNDY THURSDAY – Commemorating the last meal Jesus shares with his disciples prior to his arrest and crucifixion. Jesus institutes the new covenant, illustrated by communion (or Eucharist, the Lord’s Supper). He also defines the prevailing characteristic of his followers: love-motivated service. 6:30 pm: Love Feast and Communion.
  • GOOD FRIDAY – The sky turned dark for three hours the afternoon Jesus completed his mission to ransom all of humanity to the Father, a price that was the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless lamb of God. 7 pm: worship and prayer in the Gathering Area.
  • HOLY SATURDAY – A vigil during which we recall the seeming hopelessness after the Son of God was laid in a tomb. We reflect on the Gospel story as told from Genesis on: how the events of Jesus’ life were prophesied hundreds, even thousands, of years earlier. 5:30/6:30/7:30 pm: an hour-long meditation on Scripture in West Room 101 (please park near the barn and enter from the back).

Covenant Prayer

Prayer 752 TitleHello Church, this past Sunday I preached on a method of prayer called Covenant Prayer. We looked at two different ways to do covenant prayer. The first was in making a regularly commitment to pray; to find a time and a space to consistently meet with God Almighty.

The second way we looked at Covenant Prayer was through the means of declaring, “Not my will, but Yours.” Embracing God’s desire to own all of us, come whatever circumstances. We practiced this on Sunday using a prayer attributed to John Wesley. Since the sermon, I’ve had a few people ask for me to provide this resource to all, so I figured I’d share the prayer through LifeShare. We used a more modern version of the prayer, but there’s also a more tradition version of the prayer for you Olde English folks!

Modern

I am no longer my own, but yours.
Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will;
put me to doing, put me to suffering;
let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you,
exalted for you, or brought low for you;
let me be full, let me be empty,
let me have all things, let me have nothing:
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things
to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours. So be it.
And the covenant now made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.

Traditional

I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.

Etch is Cancelled (3/21)

It’s Spring! Can’t you tell?

ETCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER.

We encourage you to take this time to register for Session 3 Electives, April 4-25.

Session 3 New Electives

discover your place WEBSITE FRONTDISCOVER YOUR PLACE
Discover Your Place (DYP) is our four-week course that equips you to learn the importance of serving, and how God has uniquely designed each of us to serve within and beyond the church body as a disciple of Christ. The goal of this class is to understand ourselves and others better as we serve. This makes our ministries even stronger. In short, “We are better together.” Specifically we look at how experiences, personality style, spiritual gifts, talents and your passion all create your ministry profile for serving. It is a great time of discovering together.

1.pngPHILIPPIANS: PAUL’S ENCOURAGEMENT
The book of Philippians has offered inspiration, instruction, and challenge for millennia. This four-week course takes a look at how Paul, a man in prison, sends encouragement and compassion for a church who desires to serve and suffer alongside him for the sake of Jesus Christ and the gospel. This course does not require registration to attend, but would be appreciated.

If you have registered for Conquer Series (Men’s), The Quest (Women’s), or The Art of Marriage, you WILL NOT need to register for Session 3 electives.

You can register for new electives here, or scroll down to further to fill out the form.

Starting Point LOOPS

. . . where your journey begins – Sunday, March 4

If you know someone who is new to ECOB, we would like to meet them. Bring them by the table in the Gathering Area immediately following either service to receive their welcome gift.

Baptism

“Have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.” (Romans 6:3-5 NLT)

Christian baptism is an identification. We identify ourselves publicly with Jesus Christ. We declare our personal faith in Him. We acknowledge our dependence upon Jesus Christ and His death alone for our salvation. We are saying, “I am a believer. I belong to Jesus Christ. I am on His side.” If you’re interested in baptism and would like to discuss it with a pastor or elder please contact the office, 456-5507.

Congregational Information Meeting Cancelled

The Congregational Information Meeting regarding the current state of the Church of the Brethren Denomination previously scheduled for Sunday, March 11, has been cancelled. The next meeting will be in early April. More info to come!

A few Sundays back, our church entered a church-wide 120 Day Life@Home Campaign called Prayer 7>5>2. We are asking each person who calls ECOB their home to intentionally make prayer a priority in their lives. We are calling for families to make prayer a priority in their family life. We are desiring all to simply be with God; in His Presence.

…[God] is inviting you – and me – to come home, to come home to where we belong, to come home to that for which we were created. His arms are stretched out wide to receive us. His heart is enlarged to take us in.
– Richard Foster

What do we mean by Life@Home Campaign?

Jesus, who says he is The WAY, TRUTH, and LIFE (John 14:6); who said he came to bring life and life to its fullest (John 10:10)… We often leave him boxed inside the walls of a church building and that’s all the real LIFE we get… a boxed-in version. Life@Home’s goal is to provide each of you with resources, and consistent reminders that Jesus… our LIFE needs to be a part of our home, our work, our schools, wherever we go.

Thus, one of the resources with Life@Home we’re excited to provide is what is called 120 Day Campaigns. The goal behind these campaigns is to be intentional about making Jesus a norm in our lives.

Why Prayer?

From the first moment that God breathed into Adam in the garden, until now God has desired to communicate with us. Even after we sinned and were removed from the presence of God, he still sought after us… to rescue us. To be with us! And prayer is the closest place on earth to BE WITH God.

Prayer will not just change you… it will change us all. And so, for ECOB, we’re going to be spending the next 120 Days intentionally focusing on prayer in three different ways.

Prayer 7>5>2

Pray 7 times a week INDIVIDUALLY for opportunities to Share Life and Share Christ.
Pray 5 times a week with your FAMILY for God to be more involved in your lives.
Pray 2 times a week with a PRAYER PARTNER for the church, it’s leaders, and church vision.

We also have a Life@Home packet that you can pick up at the Life@Home resource center on Sunday. OR if you’d really like to get the packet now, you’re able to download all the resources in the packet on our website.

Life@Home

Given this a new campaign, we want to encourage everyone to take a new Discipleship Appraisal and allow God to examine your life and relationship with Him. Download them on our website.

There are also a whole new crop of Recipe Cards which are creative ways to get yourself, couples, and families more intentional about making Jesus a part of our everyday lives. Download them OR check them out at our Life@Home Resource Center on Sunday.
